For independent, innovative, and collaborative-minded workers, coworking offers an opportunity space for creating an all-inclusive and productive community. The coworking movement has revolutionized the concept of running a small business in the Western world, and it has begun to spread to those countries that need it most.
Countries such as Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro are looking to join the global coworking movement, and by utilizing social media platforms, are creating communities by offering spaces for small businesses and freelancers.
Coworking in the Balkans can have a direct impact on how future generations acquire valuable professional skills, thus addressing the high unemployment rates. It will also set the foundation upon which a supportive and forward-thinking community can be built. The development of a strong association of creative people via coworking could also be a solution to resolving ethnic tensions, and a chance for countries once isolated by longstanding war and brutal dictatorships to become valuable members of a global community.
